About

About

Mati Granica is a Polish photographer based in East London. He is currently studying a Batchelor of the Arts degree in Photography at the University of the Arts London.

He photographs a range of subjects; portraits, landscapes, cityscapes and everything inbetween, often combining them all. Earlier photography includes traditional landscape and cityscape work, some of which has been critically acclaimed. This work is atmospheric and often has a sense of implied narrative. It has been described as having a tangible energy, and has been critically recognised by organisations like Amateur Photographer and Landscape Photographer of the Year.

More recent work has come from university projects exploring a wide range of concepts, ranging from artificiality in portraiture to mental health storytelling to the effects of urban light pollution. This work has significant conceptual grounding as well as diverse aesthetics.

Critically, his photos have performed successfully in competitions like Amateur Photographer of the Year (APOTY) and UK Landscape Photographer of the Year (LPOTY). He has been shortlisted countless times in APOTY across the entire spectrum of categories, recently finishing in the top percentile of entrants in the 2023 edition. In LPOTY, he has been published and exhibited on two separate occasions. In collection 14 he was highly commended in the ‘Urban Life’ category and runner-up in ‘Your View’, while in collection 16 he was highly commended in ‘Cityscapes’. In both of these editions, his work was published in the corresponding book and exhibited in a touring public exhibition at eight major train stations across the UK, from London to Edinburgh.

Aged 20 he’s at the beginning of his career and excited to grow and evolve.
