x (WIP)

visualises a speculative future in which artificial beams of reflected sunlight illuminate landscapes worldwide. Inspired by Reflect Orbital’s proposed 'sunlight on demand' system, the project examines how reflected light could erase one of the last remaining natural experiences: darkness. It extends the concerns of Even at Night It’s Never Dark, critiquing humanity’s growing inability to escape artificial light.

By constructing scenes where reflective satellites replace stars, X reflects on the ecological and psychological consequences of a world that can be permanently lit. The work questions what is lost when darkness becomes disrupted and technologically replaced in remote parts of the world.

Created in Unreal Engine with Cesium.
