Structures of Concealment
is a continuous personal exploration of disconnected national heritage, photographed using his uncle’s Zenit from the 80s. It delves into my connection to my family’s history in Poland, revisiting locations significant to his childhood and family.
As a first generation immigrant to the UK, the presence of distortion serves as a visual metaphor for the difficulty in fully grasping or understanding his past. Themes of concealment emerge throughout, reflecting both the personal and collective challenges in uncovering a clear connection to his heritage. This project seeks to highlight the fragmented nature of familial memory and the elusive quality of history, exploring the struggle of reclaiming lost or obscured cultural ties.
